IX Convocatoria Interna de Investigación USTA
Título: Desarrollo de un modelo molecular 3D del trasnportador transmembranal de nucleósidos ENT1 del Plasmodium falciparum
Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) is a protozoan parasite, one of the species of Plasmodium that cause malaria in humans. Global strategies to mitigate malaria has been focused on vector controlled, chemo-preventive therapies and treatment of disease by attack the parasite.

Recent studies suggest the main actual strategies will not be sustainable in long term due to existence of highly resistant Plasmodium strains. So, it's necessary to find new methods to control the virus.
Equilibrative Nucleoside Transporter (ENT) is a protein that transport nucleotides through the lipid bilayer, for the parasite survival and reproduction. These fact, become a ENT an excellent therapeutic target.
The aim of this project is to predict the 3D molecular structure of PfENT1 on lipid bilayer.
