Purpose: Understand the 21rst Century concept of "Spontaneous"  and "Entropy".

 

Watch the video title "Entropy and Introduction to Microstates Pt 1" where Dr. Shields explains the concept of entropy and microstates.

Also watch de video "Entropy, Microstates, and the Boltzmann Equation Pt 2" where Dr. Shields introduces and discusses the Boltzmann equation for calculating entropy change.

Now, lets calculate the entropy...
 

Surface Phenomena

Purpose: Apply the concept of "Surface Phenomena" to solve real problems. 

 

Activity

1. Read the article "7 Ways to Purify Chemicals That Could Change the World. Separating substances without using heat would lower global energy use, emissions and pollution"

2. In pairs, choose one of the "7 ways to purify Chemical", find an article to describe a possible solution of this way.

3. Present, in max. 10 min and five slices, the main idea of the paper.  Focus on enviromental application.
